On a whim, I just bought a newly issued twin-disk CD album called "Esquisses Hebraiques"-- Clarinet Quintets on Jewish Themes -- played by Dieter Kloecker and the Vlach Quartet. I think it is very lovely music and thought some of you out there might be interested. The record is produced in Germany on something called the CPO label. Number 999 630-2.

I don't know the album, but I'm sure it's very interesting material....and probably technically difficult. I do know a former pupil of Mr. Kloecker...Bea Smeyers of Koln. She's married to a former pupil of mine, David Smeyers and they are Das Klarinetten Duo. Do you know them, or any of their CD's? They're quite good, too. Thanks for the info. ET

Thanks Earl. I will look for them the next time I am in Cologne, which is quite frequently. The record is not Klezmer by the way.

Get the video of "Fiddler on the Roof" and tape off the music of the many themes, in particular see what you can do on the "Bottle Dance". I played reed 3 or 4, and was glad that a better cl'ist had it. Don
