Morning guys and guyessess,
I am having difficulty searching for something this morning (it was a really good night last night..........)
I am trying to find information on
'looking after wooden clarinets,'
but I seem to be using the wrong combination of words in my search terms. I have found two short but quite useful threads, but most of the other pages returned seem to a variation of the sentance, 'a wooden clarinet will probably fine if you look after it well' or 'however well you lok after it some clarinets will just crack anyway', and I have to go through about 20 posts on the theme of, 'my band director says....,' to find that one sentance.
If anyone can help me out of my rather blonde moment I would appreciate it.
a) what search terms will pull up some info, I've tried all the combinations I can think of but admit I am not firing on all cylinders this morning.
b) has anyone got one of those old posts handy where they conveniently listed about 5 relevant threads?!
I can't believe I can't find much because if there were a top ten for most asked questions then this would have to be on it!
Thanks all
D

There've been many posts on oiling the bore and also mouthpiece care, try those and the responses could include other suggestions for clarinet care. I'm not sure that there's a thread with all the information one would need all in one place. Specific questions have been discussed separately.
Failing a search here, try Tom Ridenour's book, "The Educator's Guide to the Clarinet". All of Chapter 10 is dedicated to all aspects of the care of your clarinet including wood care, oiling, cleaning the joint sockets, mouthpiece, tone hole maintenance and so forth. Possibly this would give you the help you're looking for.

I feel your pain, D. Been there, done that.
You'll need to experiment with different search terms. But here's something that will speed up your searching: When reading posts in a thread, switch the display from "flat view" to "threaded view". Flat view shows you the full text of all the posts in a thread. When you get a hit on a search, the flat view doesn't help you pinpoint the particular message in a thread that met your search criteria. So you have to visually scan all of them. With threaded view, only one message is displayed at a time. You'll be directed immediately to the right message.
The place to switch between flat and threaded view is just below the last message displayed, on the left side.
Happy hunting!

Low Reed, I never knew that, thanks, I shall give it a try.
Brenda, I tried your suggestion too, I read loads about bore oil. Very interesting that there are so many different opinions.
Thanks for your time.

try "care" or "maintenance" rather than "looking after". Then perhaps try other synonyms. "Looking after" isn't the term I'd use, anyways.
