 Henri Selmer 10 Series
Author: Randall1

I'm trying to find out about a "Selmer Series 10 B Clarinet given to me several years ago. The serial number on the bell and other areas of the clarinet show the following, V3147. I think this was made back in the 1960's. Is this instrument of significant value? Any suggestions!!!

Thanks

That should be a 1967 vintage clarinet.

Sir,

Do you know what something like this may be worth?

My long suffering & beautiful wife paid ~$900 for an immaculate Series 10 a few months ago from WWBW.

I've seen Series 10 sell from the the mid-$300s on up on e-bay. As one might expect, everything has to do with the condition of the instrument and how well you can embellish the condition of the instrument !

Dear Randalll; It sounds like you should read the message of 07-16 of larry light: Selmer Bb Series 10G, because I and others discuss the one that you saw, the Series 10 without the G. My review is negative. At least see how well it is in tune for you with a pitchmeter. Sincerely, Ken the onetime shopper

They are just "ok" - barely. Value would be probably around $500 or so if that.

I agree that you'll be doing good to get better than $500.00 for it. They were designed to compete with the Buffet R-13, but really don't. I've owned a couple of them and ended up selling both.

They were from the era of Selmer and Leblanc (and all others) being the wanabees for Buffet's 90% market share.

At least that's what Buffet Brochures say - that 90% of professional players played their Clarinets (brochures from the 60's and 70's - when they had the R-13 1/2, R-14, R-14 3/4,R-15, R-15 1/2, R-16 1/2)

Who would have thought?

Bizarre but true! The 1/2 numbers had to do with the key setup (full boehm, etc)
