I just finished watching the video "Eroica, the day that changed music forever." I should be a little jaded after a 50-year career as a professional musician, but I experienced an incredible "rush" watching and listening to this film. The performance of the symphony (by John Eliot Gardiner and the Orchstre Revolutionaire et Romantique) on period instruments is incredible, and the acting and dramatic scenario are corruscating!
Remembering all the old Hollywood films about Chopin, Greig, etc. which were laughable to anyone with much musical sophistication, this one ought to be required watching for anyone who seriously loves music!

Sounds pretty neat. Who is the publisher/distributor?
I have to confess though when I saw the headline, I thought you were going to tell us there was now a broadway musical called "Eroica!" Must have been the exclamation point.
Come see Napoleon and all his whacky friends in this must see musical for the whole family. Eroica!

Hope you enjoyed it, I had so much fun doing that film, i'm playing the second clarinet part in the film, the other player was Roy Jowitt who was the principle of the LSO alongside Brymer. The funny thing was that he had never touched or played a classical clt in his life, I had to give him a major crash course in it and needless to say he got round it in the end. Bring on the royalties.

But I'm right in saying, am I not, that you didn't have actually to produce the soundtrack? (That was prerecorded by other players -- so you were miming to that.)

that is true but on the first 'miming' day Peter hanson decided that we should play along with the soundtrack, they later superimposed the Eliot Gardener recording. It was great fun but getting up at 5am for 12 days with 2hrs to get changed and makeup then not finishing until 7.30pm required a long break and much wine.
Tony do you think a good Italian red compares with a French. I know this is like comparing Brahms and Beethoven but just wondered what your view on this was, I prefer Italian myself.

Sounds like a great date -- and you're better paid than the guys who played the music, no? Still, I get the point about the hours.

Well, although I'm teaching and playing in Siena for 3 weeks, unfortunately I'm also on the wagon, so I can't speak so directly to the question:-(
I think I'd have to say that the best French wine trumps the best Italian -- but there's a concert in the Abbazia of Sant' Antimo in Montalcino next week with a reception afterwards -- so we'll get for example, Brunello, and I may decide to fall off....I'll let you know....
