Hello, just wondering if anyone could offer some perspective, maybe a survey…
A Leblanc low C bass clarinet and a Leblanc Bb contrabass clarinet (straight model) are both on sale for identical price. If you have the funds and don’t yet own either a bass or contra, what would you choose to buy?
And why?

Bass - theres much more literature out there , and thus performance opportunities, on bass.

That could either be a very expensive bass or a very cheap contrabass. Bass would have more literature to play than contra, but the contra could double a contrabassoon with a little practice. It all really comes down to one thing.
Would you like to make your arm tired carrying the bass, or your back broken carrying a contrabass?

Great comments, Contra, I racked-up both back and knees lugging around a Low A bari sax ! If I had another choice, I'd re-learn the sight transposition of Bb parts onto an Eb horn, and get a GOOD, ?Selmer? contra-alto to play all three. Just my afternoon thots. Don

I guess another element to consider is value, which will hold its value better (depreciates less) over time?
I know student level basses depreciate dramatically in the first year, whereas low C basses hold their value relatively well.

I would choose the contrabass because I already have a bass clarinet 
If I didn't have a bass, I would take the bass, but not because it has more literature since I don't play any of that anyway. Like contra said, I wouldn't want to break my back.

oh man, that would be hard.
I would probably say bass, because I am called up more to play bass than contra. I miss contra tho. :(
