Has anybody here heard of him?

He teaches at the University of Plateville. He's an amazing player and writes phenomenal cadenzas. He has a cd on Amazon as well. Just curious if anyone has heard him play?

I love the cd! It's the Brahms trio Op. 114 plus both Op. 120 sonatas, and it's my personal favorite version of the 120s...you'd think after all the recorded versions there'd be nothing new to say, but the cd has a passionate intensity that I personally haven't heard in other recordings. I knew John a few years back when he was a NYC freelancer & teacher, and played 2nd/bass with him in a number of orchestras. Brilliant player, consummate musician, a pleasure to play with. I definitely recommend the cd, and if you get a chance to hear him play, I'd say run, don't walk!

ps, a quote from the American Record Guide, which reviewed the cd: "...this is a fantastic release, with performances at or near the top of the list. Do search out this recording-it is outstanding."

I've taken some lessons from him. He's really a fanatstic teacher.

By the way, daWF, I meant to mention, I studied with John too, for a number of years. I'm still hacking away at the standard clarinet rep that has his phrasings pencilled in (by me) from back then, plus his alternate fingerings (the guy's an alternate-fingering encyclopedia) and, yes, those cadenzas too! those were good times--say 'hey' for me if you see him again.
