 Sanding down the cork
Author: bflatclarinetist

Since I got my first Buffet today, I'm having troubles assembling and disassembling it. It's very tough, you have to push at full force for it the joints to go in all the way. I was wondering if sanding the cork down a tiny bit would help this issue, but I'm scared if I do it too much then it's going to be too loose...Or should I do it bit by bit so it fits perfectly?

Thank you

Chances are it is the wood which is jamming and needs careful sanding by a tech.

Do a search on "tight joints" or "tight tenon" and it will yield much to read, including these recent threads:

Oh, haven't thought about the wood being the culprit. Okay, I'll read those threads.

This seems to be common on the current Buffets. (Been there, done that!)The problem is with the wooden shoulder, not the cork. Get it fixed by a tech before you damage the instrument by forcing. Assuming this is a new horn, it should be covered by Buffet's warranty (though it is a cheap repair.) Talk to the seller.
