I playing "How Firm a Foundation" arranged by Steve Dunn. In measure #73 is shows a middle G nat with a trill sign and a flat symbol next to it. Does anyone know what this means? The next measure shows a high G with a trill and a flat symbol as well. The key is C - no sharps or flats. Help!!!

I would do a Gnat/Aflat trill.....but I'm not positive that's correct. My interpretation is that it's just a reminder to not do a full step trill....i.e. Gnat to Anat.

So a normal trill is 1 step up on the scale and the "b" would indicate 1/2 step up? That sounds logical to me. Another words, the trill note is flatter than normal. Thanks Bob.

I have felt that a half step up is a "normal" trill. Since the piece is in the key of C I think the flat sign is just an extra reminder.

You would typically trill within the key in which you are playing. Thus, a trill wiht no other markings would be from G nat to A nat. In this case, you will trill from G nat to Ab, as previously stated. That's why it's marked that way.

CORRECTION...just to avoid any confusion: My comment about a half-step being "normal" is misleading. 3dogmon's above is more accurate. The flat sign in the original post is not technically a "reminder" but ,rather, it tells you to flat the A rather than to plat Anatural....which would be your normal trill from a G in the key of C. "Search" will give you more details.
