Does anybody know where you can get a cd recording of the Rose 32 clarinet etudes....The only one I have heard of is the cd made by Kazuo Fujii on clarinet and Sachiko Fujii on piano by ALM Records in Japan. It is impossible to get this cd.
There must be a clarinetist who has recorded these etudes in a music school, or made himself a recording of them for his own use and would be willing to sell or download me a copy.
How is one suppose to learn these required etudes if one cannot hear them played first...It would be a great time saver and eye opener to hear the etudes played by a clarinetist who has mastered them

What are you talking about? That's the way we all have learned them for years - that's where sightreading comes in! (Don't take me too seriously, I just had to say that - many of us having learned these in our early years...)
As has been mentioned on this BB before, there's a CD offered by Carl Fischer Music. This is the accompaniment for the Rose 32 Etudes by pianist John Walker, catalog number WF5CD, $19.95. Reviews are positive. Anyone know who sells this CD for less?
However is there a recording of the clarinet part?
Don't forget to look here on the BB for misprint corrections depending on which printed edition of the 32 Etudes you have.

I need the cd of the etudes to check if I am playing them correctly....I never went to a teacher to learn the clarinet and so far have not had any problems I could not figure out for myself...I use to be a flamenco guitarist for 33 years, but had to stop playing due to a condition of "Focal Dystonia," similar to what the pianist, "Leon Fleisher and Gary Graffman" had.
I never heard of a clarinetist developing focal dystonia, but you can get it in the lips I have heard. When this happens, you will have no control using your lips when playing...The condition is caused by overplaying....I know that violinists get the condition in their "bow arm."
What I have is similar to "Writer's Cramp," where your hand will suddenly close tight when you attempt to touch the strings of the guitar....The only treatment for this condition is a "Botox" shot every three months to relax the affected muscles, but in my case the shots were not effective enough.
I can still play the piano, but have to go slow or my left hand will cramp up.

Dang it! That reminds me that someone asked for an etude recorded and I promised them I would post it. I since have forgotten. I do intend to get back to it though. Thanks for the reminder.
An yes, learn them first how you "think" they should "go" and then, if possible, listen to the recording. Listening to a recording first, though pleasing and often inspiring, tends to limit ideas that might come about from your own original reading.

You're never gonna learn that way if you just listen to the recording and just play what you heard, using the notes as a guideline. But considering you have never had a teacher, then that might be useful to you.

If all you do is imitate what you've heard on a recording, you're likely to simply imitate that person. I'm notorious for doing that. For this reason, I always avoid recordings of pieces I play until I've been practicing them a while.

I'll be there most of the week (though I'll probably have to leave early most nights since I have to catch a train by 9:30-10 PM to get back to where I'm staying).

That is great news to hear...It's about time someone recorded these etudes, and with piano accompaniment no less.
Mr Hill, can you and Mr. Walker post on this board where to buy your recording of the etudes when the cd is ready to be sold. I wish I could attend your concert, but I live in Florida...
And how about recording the Artie Shaw jazz etudes next?
