 another ? on how to play A (&G)

thanks so much for the help on how to play an A. i can get the note out and hold it for a few seconds but i cant sustain it. same with G ..but i can do that one a little longer. I have both these notes in a march we are playing. i have about 5 weeks to practice. any suggestions? long notes? thanks, jan

I don't know if you are familiar with reed adjusting techniques.

I find that these notes are easier to play, and to sustain, if I thin the reed along the edges, back about a quarter of an inch from the tip.

The Ridenour ATG system uses the "A" as one of it's test notes to determine if a reed is working properly.

Of course lots of practice helps too.

I would recommend approaching them by scale, and also experimenting with different fingerings, every instrument is different. There's a good resource on this website for fingerings for everything you need.

It's not a means to an end though, there are fingerings that I use that aren't on there, particularly for altissimo stuff.
