I think the one you mean is an overblown E. (Thumb and second two fingers). There a lots of fingering charts on the internet, and indeed on this site. Type an enquiry into Google and see what you come up with.

One of the best on-line sites for fingerings is:
http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/
You can go to
http://www.wfg.woodwind.org/clarinet/cl_alt_4.html
for the specific fingerings for the A you are lookig for.

Try overblowing the F (register, thumb, second and third LH finger, G# key). Worked for me recently performing the big arpeggios near the end of the first movement of Weber 2 -- though the finger progression may not lend itself well to an A major scale.

Janlynn -
The standard fingering is the same as altissimo E: thumb, register, left middle and ring finger + the Eb/Ab key. You raise the back of your tongue and voice for the next available overtone. For more on voicing, see my piece on Clarinet Day at Mannes, and also the "swab in the bell" excercise. I don't have time right now to provide links, but the search function will find them.
If you have trouble getting up to the A, try switching your right little finger down to the F#/C# key, which helps the note pop out.

The standard fingering for A6 is:
TR oxx / ooo F#/C#
This fingering has better response and is also a bit higher in pitch than using:
TR oxx / ooo Ab/Eb
My 2 favorite alternate A6 fingerings, both which use the open thumb hole:
R oxx / xox F#/C#
and
R ooo / xxo F#/C#
