 Neidich's Setup
Author: AMJ

Hey All,
I've been noticing on internet picture s of Charles Neidich that he uses a Rovner or other rubbe ligature, am I correct? I know he also use Straight bor clarinets. What mouthpiece does he play on and also what is his prefered brand of reed?
Thanks, Aaron

I have a cd of his with (what I assume is) his clarinet on the front. It's a Buffet RC.

There was a time that many players were using the Rovner Mark III ligature (when it first came out)

including Ricardo (before he switched to the BG)

Charlie plays the Hite "J" if I recall - it's been a while.

This is off the subject, but I think his recordings on period instruments are out of this world.

NEWS FLASH!!!
I worked with Charlie Neidich this morning at our Naumburg Orchestra rehearsal. He's playing the Copland Concerto with our orchestra tomorrow, June 19, at the Naumburg Shell in Central Park, NYC. It should be great for any of you who can come to the free evening concert.
We chatted about his "equipment," and I can positively state that he uses:
A Bb Buffet R-13 (he said he's never owned a Buffet RC).
A HITE "J" mouthpiece (it looks fairly old, and his spare was also a HITE).
A Rovner ligature, model MK3 (he's removed the metal pieces on the inside).
His A is also a Buffet R-13, and his spare ligature is a Rovner with the metal inside, which he removes after it stretches a bit.
So, there you have it...today, hot off the press!

The old Rovners (I have one) didn't have the metal in them at all.

Glad I remembered his setup correctly :)
