 Price difference-is this a record?

I know that music books are usually cheaper in the USA than in Europe and I'm used to ordering from amazon.com. Even with postage, it's generally half what I'd pay from amazon.co.uk.

I was looking for easy jazz duets suitable for clarinet/alto sax/trumpet combinations and found the "15 Top Jazz Duets" series which appears just what I need.

The price? Well, this is where it starts to get silly. Amazon.com quotes the books at $5.88. (In fact, I've just ordered them from Sheetmusicplus.com because the p&p is much cheaper.)

Amazon.co.uk? Well, between 27 and 40 pounds, depending on which Marketplace seller you use.

I make that between $50 and $70.

Since I wanted three books, I had to choose: either spend $18 or $210.

Hmm, difficult one that!

I have sometimes used the Solo Plus series with my students. Usually I buy these books from the local music store.

The Swing book is out of print in the US. I don't remember exactly when I discovered that it was out of print, maybe a year ago, maybe longer. At the time I checked on-line and discovered that it was still available in the UK.

The retail price in the US was $12.95 at the time, which paid for the clarinet book, piano book, and CD. It was available from the UK for $16.95 USD.

Hi GBK,

You may be right. Perhaps the jazz players in the UK are all bankrupt after selling their houses to pay for the music books! :)

Yes, but do they come with a guarantee and money-back offer?

If we're talking business, perhaps we could do a straight swop. We take California. You take Germany. Tell you what, we'll throw in Belgium for free!

:)

How about we just pay you to take California, and you keep the rest!
