In an earlier thread Red Neill mentioned a program to slow down CDs. This sounds like what I need. Can antone enlghten me on this?

There is a product that will allow you to select a segment of a piece and loop it at 1/2 speed.
Oddly enough, it's called CD Looper. URL http://www.replayinc.com
The early version I tried was sort of clunky. They may have a updated version out now though.

Slow Gold is used to extract portions of the CD and then slow that portion down to help with transcribing. The portion may be as much 189 seconds. Another way to do the same is a ripper program that will extract the music from the cd and convert to an mp3 file which can be imported to a notation program like <Melody Assistant or Noteworthy. Once this is imported the notation program will print out the music thereby saving you the hassle of transcribing. This in turn can be played back and the tempo reduced if you want to use it as a play=along. You can find Slow Gold by typing the name in your address bar. Below is another company that makes another version of this software. Last months Maximum magazine had some free software regarding MP3. I dont know if they had a "ripper" program with it.

Maximmum magazine has some MP3 programs in last issue but don't know if there was a ripper and mp3 convertor on their CD.
