 The Buffet Clear clarinet!
Author: contragirl

Does anyone know where I can find a picture of it for my website? I found the picture that Gigliotti uses for the swab advertisement, but I would like a bigger image and one that may not be as copyrighted. (I try to get permission to use it on my page before posting)

And why are they so hard to find? I want one. :( No one seems to want to give them up!

Thanks!

They show up on ebay from time to time. You just have to be willing to spend way to much money for a B12 to win the auction. Did I mention you had to spend WAY too much money?

Buffet B12 (clear)

I've posted this popular link before. Even though this is a Japanese site, just click on all the gallery links to see more pictures than you would ever need:

wait wait wait... are you telling me that they also made a clear Albert clarinet?!? I assume that is a C and Bb... or Bb and A? (a C would have a chubbier barrel and look similar to an Eb in a way)

That is more weird than I expected!

I've always wanted one, I remember the first time I saw one in a catalog, there was no pictures just a list with "clear clarinet" next to the dazzlers, and next to clear clarinet is said "discontinued." Then I thought how gross it would be to see your spit running down the bore while you're playing. Then I thought it would be really cool.

And yes, I do catch them when they get on ebay... and no, I never have the $$ to buy one. :( I mean, $500+ for a student instrument? Maybe when it becomes antique. lol

Thanks everyone!

It's a Schreiber (Boosey & Hawkes/Buffet) C clarinet:

I'm sorry. I find clear instruments and mouthpieces a bit disgusting. Don't like to see the spit running down the inside.

When they're not being played they're quite attractive.

Lol, I actually just saw that last night! that guy has been trying to sell that goofy bell for a while. Now if he was selling that clarinet, that's a different story. (But he isn't.) :(

Thanks!

Francois Kloc told me that Buffet made only one batch and had no plans to make any more. That's too bad, since they could probably sell a lot of them. I'd buy one in a minute.

They come up several times a year on eBay and go for a big premium -- usually over $1,000 for a bottom of the line student model.

Here are pictures of Giora Feidman's all-clear setup -- Buffet clear clarinet, crystal mouthpiece, Luyben ligature and Legere reed.

those clarinets do look pretty cool (though not as cool as the ones painted with tiger stripes), but the idea of seeing all the spit accumulating inside grosses me out...like when I play the plastic, see-through recorder...ick! :-P

Hey now, David, CG... I think those curved soprano bells are kinda cool.

Curved bell, yeah, I guess so. But, for almost $400.00 you can buy a lot of stuff that would really make your instrument sing.

You mean, something like lessons?

Nothing else I've purchased seems to make a difference in how well I play...
