 Old A-clarinet- info. please
Author: Jerry

I have been offered a very old A-clarinet for sale, a Selmer "Brevette," serial #8217. I can't find anything on this serial number, but my guess is that it was made in late 1920's-early 1930's. It's in very good shape, no cracks. Does anyone have any information about this line? Does $600 sound like a fair price?
Thanks!

I think you're right -- it dates back to about 1930. $600 seems a touch high to me but on the other hand, some of those old "gems" are really excellent instruments. Pads in good shape? If it plays well, and you like it, then what's to lose??!

Good luck!
Krista

Agreed, I have seen several golden-oldies go for $2-400. The French "brevet" etc refer to patenting a "brief" describing the invention. Don
