Has anyone used this site before to sell something?
I just started selling something, and I am getting those ppl from overseas that are like "hello, I am interested in ad, I have client interested in your product." I know this is a the danger of listing any classified, but when the ad is over, will I still get these annoying emails? I don't want to have to pay $5 to change my email address on the site (as Usedflutes charges if you change emails). Bah
I guess I can put up with the fake ones to get the real people, but when I sell it, I don't want to continue getting the emails!

Here's a message printed in red at the bottom of every Classified page here (including the Flute section )
"Please be aware that many scams are out there. A very common one is someone sending you a certified or cashier's check for significantly more than you're asking. In every case this has been a forged check! People should only send you the amount you're asking, and even then you should wait for the check to clear before sending the merchandise. Talk with your bank if you're the least bit unsure."
As soon as you show interest they'll be a "I'll let my agent handle this ... a certified check will be sent ... send me the difference in cash/wire Western Union" message.
It's a scam.

Oh yeah, I know all the scams now and I am going through each email to make sure which is which. I'm just wondering if they will continue to email me this crap even after I've sold it. Cuz UsedFlutes keeps the ads posted for YEARS, and I don't want some saps trying to scam me on something I don't have anymore! lol.
I don't know if these scammers use bots or what, but I'm sure they'll see an email address and be like "ok, let's send her an email even though we emailed her fifteen million times already." AHH.

Perhaps, after you sell the flute, you can set up an allow list for emails. Or if you have spam control...these "overseas" emails are usually composed off a script. Certain words or phrases stand out that you can have all emails containing these phrases banned or sent directly into a spam folder.

You could always list with an anonymous address from one of the majors...
hotmail, yahoo and others...
You still need to stroll through them.
My experience is that most sites (other than the well policed, that is) are just fodder for the trollers, and a colossal waste of time.

I've gotten a few of those messages when I advertised this or that.
In my case, they never repeated and nothing else ever happened.
then again, it always seems like my bank account is on the low side, and it never seems to balance just right.

Well this is my email address dilemma:
Usedflutes.com charges $5 to change your email address. I don't wanna pay 5 bucks cuz I'm cheap.
The email address set up there is the common one I use for everyone, which is linked to my domain that I own (bonnie-sue.net), so I can't set up spam protectors in my email address because it forwards to my hotmail and gmail accounts. The spam that my hotmail acct strains out is different than what my gmail strains. Also, I have to go through the junk mail box of each everyday anyway, because sometimes the useful emails are sent there too.
It's an endless cycle!
But if I stop getting the emails within like a month or so, it wouldn't be too much of a sacrifice to sell the flute.
Usedflutes.com is actually a fairly good site for flutists to sell/buy flutes. My friend got a basically new Muramatsu with 2 new headjoints from a guy for like $4000, and was able to sell one of the headjoints for more than she paid for it.
You just have to put up with the scammers and be able to tell who is trying to rip you off or not. :/

I actually had a flute listed on that site about three years ago and STILL get those scam emails from time to time offering to buy the flute for more than I was asking. I know they are getting my email address from that website because that is the only place I advertised it.
The emails are so obviously scams though. I just delete them.
But yeah, they will likely continue to email you this crap for a long time.
