 Penzel-Mueller

I acquired a Penzel-Mueller wood Bb recently. The Model is a 'Empire State". Plays pretty good. Might someone out there know a little history of the instrument?

Not really sure about your model . . . my parents bought me a P-M to start band with in about 1963. Honestly, it was horrible . . . not near as good as the Bundys many of the other students had. Hope yours is better.

I believe if you "Search the Phorum", you will find that Mark has posted Langwill's info re: P-M. My first good cl, which I still have, is a full-Boehm [with repaired crack]dated in the 1920's, the last time I played it was fine, but still flat above top-of-staff! I bought and gave to a Tulsa teacher [for a song] an earlier full-B, also OK. I also have a later Artist Model PM, which is equally as good as its '50-60's [?] contemporaries. They were in NYC and I believe combined with Woodwind Co., now gone? Don

There was also an "Empire" brand of metal clarinets which I thing was made by Penzel-Mueller. Those were student grade instruments. (P-M did make a better grade of metal clarinet as well as some other student models, such as the American Gloritone.) Anyway, my guess is that the P-M that you have was a student model. An old and experianced repair tech could give you some advice.
