 artificial reeds vs natural reeds

Is it sacreligious to use the new type of fibercell artificial reeds. I started on natural reeds but found the fake reeds are more consistent and no breaking in time required. Any thoughts from the pros on here?

Use whatever works for you. You can even take "natural" reeds and coat them with artists' type water base acrylic varnish if you want to.

Legere reeds are arguably the best artificial reeds on the current market.

However, for my soprano clarinets, I still prefer cane--for, that means VanDoran V12s.

I now use Legere Studio Cut reeds for tenor saxophone and am very pleased. They project well and at the end of a 4 hour gig they are still going strong. I recently did a number of perfomances of "Grease" (yeah...I know) and it was nice not to have to worry about finding a perfect reed each night. The consistancy from reed to reed is superb.

However, I found that the smaller Legere reeds (clarinet, alto sax) did not have the same projection or core quality to the sound as the comparable cane (Gonzalez) reeds.

I do keep a few Legere reeds in my clarinet and alto sax cases for emergencies, but have not had to use them...GBK
