Interesting article by a person who does not claim to be a plating expert or have had any actual experience with the process of electroplating. His opinion on bore oiling is even more interesting.

After many detailed discussions about use of oil, or not using oil on the bore and the basic properties of wood, oil impregnation at the factory, and the physical effects of seasoning wood - it is not necessary to refute some of the material in the web site - lets just leave it as "interesting".
