 Buffet R-13 Prestige
Author: Jen

I'm looking into purchasing a set of Prestiges. If anyone has information on where to look, prices, or about the instruments in general I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm also trying to sell my current R-13s but I have no idea of a price. They were both overhauled in January of this year, the Bb has one pinned crack, generally good instruments. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Jen

I'm wondering why you're looking to buy Prestiges if you haven't looked at them or know much about them in general.

Mark --

I know quite a lot about these instruments and have tested several sets. The best instruments and prices I have found have been at Weiner's. I was just interested in someone else's opinion. Maybe there's a great litte music shop that I'm overlooking.

Spending $6000 on instruments I know nothing about would be incredibly foolish.

The best place to go is Woodwind and Brasswind in South Bend Indiana, where I got my Buffet Vintage for 2199 when it's listed at 3825. That's all I can say... good luck

I think you're best bet for music shops are Weiner's, where I got my R-13, and Woodwind and Brasswind. However, I am prejudiced and can only say Weiner's because their deals as far as insurance seems to be the best. If it cracks, they will let you pick out a brand new instrument and put the keywork on from you're other instrument.

I wouldn't go with somewhere small, because you don't know the quality of the technician. Go with what you think is best. After all the Prestige is one great instrument!

"Small" when it comes to musical instrument shops isn't necessarily bad ... in fact, many times its can be **good**.

"Big fish in small pond" -- "Small fish in big pond"

Many people feel that in a larger store you are just another number.

However, like most things, it just **depends** and it isn't fair to generalize.

Take Mr. Bill Brannen in Evanston is VERY SMALL. Yet, many renowned players frequent his repair shop. No slight to anybody, the list of small shops that are great is endless. On the other hand, many small shops can't afford to allow one the luxury of trying 20 clarinets. To many such shops, having 3 or 4 clarinets on hand is a luxury for them.

ClarinetFest is coming up. ... There will be LOTS of clarinets there.

I got my R-13 from WW&BW, and I have no complaints. I got it for $1839, which is very tough to beat, and that is w/ silver plated keys. I wouldn't go someplace really small, mainly for selection. You can test many different instruments at a place like WW&BW or Weiner.

I got my R-13 at Weiner's for $1778. I believe that silver plated was $1795. When it comes to instruments, I think that Weiner's is the most affordable.
