 Clarinet with orchestra pieces
Author: wvu_cnet21

Hello,

I am looking for a piece to play that is written for solo clarinet with orchestral accompaniment. I am looking for something a little showy, maybe even a little more contemporary/recent.

Of course there are the Mozart & Copland Concertos, and the Debussy Premeire Rhapsody...but I am looking for something a little different.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know; and also where I might be able to find a recording of the piece as well.

Thanks a bunch,

David L.

Rossini Introduction, Theme, and Variations

Nielsen Concerto

Adams Gnarly Buttons

or even...

Corigliano Concerto...

Try a Weber Concerto:
#1(first and third movements are very showy)
#2(beautiful second movement)

I love the first movment of the Daniel Wolff Clarinet Concerto. It's very adventurous and the ending makes me wanna break down and dance.

You might try one of the Malcolm Arnold concertos.

Also, see this thread, where I recently asked a similar (albeit less broad) question:

Thanks for all of your all's suggestions!!!...they've really helped, especially the link :from EEbaum :-)

You were right, your question was VERY similar to mine. In fact, I am actually looking for pieces for the same purpose. Everyone always performs the Nielsen, Copland, and Mozart, and I am trying to find somthing different.

Furthermore I think that the replies given to your question should be enough for me. It's a shame that I did not see your question before.

David

Maybe try operatic fantasies on themes from operas by Verdi
there's one by Donato Lovreglio and one by Luigi-Bassi (sp?)

contemporary? Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie is HARD. It is very intricate, beautiful, and with some of the stuff you play in there, I'd have to throw in "showy" (especially the last page!!)- HIGHLY recommend

I also like Weber...concerto in F minor....or Concertino...

I agree with the Malcolm Arnold Concertos. Both are great, although No.2 is much showier.

The Prokofiev Sonata (Op94), is available with orchestral accompaniment, and I think Showy would be an understatement when describing this piece. It's great, and the orchestral accompaniment is very effective.

If you want something less modern, I think the Crusell Concertos are very flashy and seem to be neglected... I personally like the 1st, but they're all good
