Does anyone know any info on Jean Cartier tenor saxes? Also, I have a Selmer clarinet (script logo), w/Elkhart*New York... serial #7026Bb.
Is anybody familiar w/this model? Is stamped US above the Selmer logo on the upper joint. thanks, Cheryl

I've overhauled a few "Jean Cartier" clarinets though I've never seen any saxes so labelled. I believe these were what is known as a 'stencil' brand, probably made by one of the many smaller or medium-sized instrument factories that were very common in and around Paris up until the 1960s or so. I could probably take a guess if I saw some photos of your tenor, but it may have been made by any number of companies including Malerne, Beaugnier, Pierret, Dolnet, etc. Does it say "Made in France" on it? If not, it could also be Italian-made.
As for the Selmer clarinet, it sounds like you have a student-to-intermediate Selmer USA model, which has gone under many names over the years and is totally unrelated (except in "Selmer" name) to the French-made Henri Selmer instruments.
