I forget, is the turn: note-up-note-down-note-next note? or is it the opposite?? or something different? I cant remember.
and I know the rhythm kinda depends on what you have before it, so say (this is all clarion regeister tp altissimo, ascending 8ths in a quick tempo [like quarter= faster than 120?]): D-G-Bb-D tied to another 8th note D, and above the second one is a turn, then the next note is a Bb (one ledger line above the staff). The next one is the same thing except instead of turning on a D, it's on an altissimo C#....the next one on a C...

This answers your question nicely:

A turn is up one note in the scale, back to original, down one note in the scale, and back to the original.

The direction of the turn is dictated by the direction of the curly sideways "s" that's above it. If goes up, then curves down, it goes up and down. If it curves down and then goes up, the notes would go down, then up.

If there's an accidental written on top or bottom of the turn, that is the accidental that you play when you hit the note above, or below the "turned" note (respectively).

As for tempo, do what sounds best (usually pretty quick, but sometimes a slightly slower turn can be desireable).
