Does anyone actually play in a clarinet quartet that is two sopranos, alto and bass?
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

I did, for about a half a semester. The clarinet proffessor respectfully requested that we stop using the Alto.

We used to work on Saturday mornings at the studio with five clarinet players. One in the woodshed with the professor, and the rest of us playing quartets.
We used two sopos, an Eb alto and a Bb bass. It was huge fun.

Most of the clarinet section of our community band meet year around (while the band does not). We have a bass, alto and as many Bb players as care to show up. We have some pretty good quartet music and have play a couple of times a year for the folks in our Pioneers Home.

I do, although one of the Bb/A players often plays Eb soprano instead, and the alto player more often than not plays Bb. (In other words, our 'most typical' configuration is Eb soprano, two Bbs, and bass).

I do.. but I double Eb/Bb and the 3rd doubles Bb/Alto and the fourth doubles Bb/Bass depending upon the arrangement we're using. We have a couple pieces that we use Eb/Bb/Alto/Bass more as a "teaching" moment to show the size and range of the clarinet family. Some of the Clarinet choir arrangements of pieces double the 3rd/alto part and double the Bass/Contra parts and double the Eb/Bb parts making them usable for just a quartet. Happy Playing!
