Hi everyone. I started playing Eb Clarinet in addition to Bb Clarinet about 2 months ago. I want to get a new ligature cause frankly the one with my mouthpiece sucks. I wanted to know what kind of ligature you all would suggest. My clarinet teacher, Dr. Greogery Oaks, told about one to get which was the same model as my Bb ligature but I can't remember and he's gone in South Carolina or North Carolina doing a unaccompanied solo clarinet deal this weekend so I couldn't get ahold of him on his cell.
Just would like your thoughts.

Mitchel Lurie Crystal
Vandoren B40
and the Genussa
Hmm, I thought that NC and SC had cell service

I use a BG Revelation ligature on Eb with a Vandoren B40 mouthpiece. It seems to work fairly well.

I use is a Vandoren regular metal ligature (which is my favorite ligature besides the Vandoren Optimum).
On the subject of Eb mouthpieces, I use a Vandoren B40 someone bought for me in Germany, the ligature (which is also Vandoren) is from the USA.
It seems that the ligature is a little too small. It fits the mtouhpiece, but the same ligature I have for Bb when is completely open, is much wider than the mouthepice, the one for Eb when completely open is just slightly wider than the mouthpiece, barely fits. Then I need to close to the screws just a little bit and it's very tight already.
Are the sizes of Vandoren mouthpieces in Germany different than the ones in the USA?

Mark Nuccio (Eb player in the NY Philharmonic) said at the Clarinet Symposium that ligatures don't matter much. I think he uses a Bonade, which is inexpensive and used by a lot of fine players (Robert Marcellus and Harold Wright, for example). Mark also recommended the Spriggs ligature, but I don't think he makes one for Eb. If your setup sounds shrill, try a fabric ligature such as the Rovner.
As Alexi says, string is best. Work with that and use whatever is closest.

I recently got a velcro one, from John Gibson of Scottsdale, AZ. Seems to work fine. Very, Very reasonable. Ordered again for my Bass.

Vandoren has a new ligature which is very similar to the Rovner Light except that it has a rubber contact piece - cool design and works very well.
Worth a try for Eb! (one of my jazz tenor sax students has it for his jodi jazz mouthpiece)

I'm almost embarrassed to jump in here, particularly since we have the respected opinion that ligatures don't matter (much?) in an Eb soprano clarinet.
BUT, with coaching from Prof Thomson at WCU, I got a second ligature so that I could do A-B-A testing of different mouthpieces. SO, I bought a Rovner ligature for that duty. The difference between my stock Buffet ligature and the Rovner was so striking that it was not possible to compare (mouthpieceA with Rovner) to (mouthpieceB with Buffet).
SO, I bought a second Rovner --which I gave to a student.
I would expect to spend some time and money auditioning both mouthpieces and ligatures.
Separate Question:
Does it generally work to take another player's advice on mouthpieces/reeds/ligitures? I've had really, really bad results. Others have even loaned me mouthpiedes that they play on and think are wonderful only to find them unsatisfactorilly (and worse).

I have a Ben Redwine Eb mouthpiece, and I have been using a Rovner lig on it with good results.

I use an inverted Vandoren Lig. I want to try putting some fabric under it and see what that does to the tone, though.

The mouthpiece I have is a Vandoren B44 which I bought from my teacher for a cheap price. It has a stock ligature with it and it gives me a little trouble getting the ligature on the reed and adjusting the reed afterwards when I need too.
