 Wicked - here we come
Author: 3dogmom

I am thrilled to say I finally scored tickets to Wicked this Tuesday evening, the 19th. This necessitates driving down from Cape Cod, but that's a small price to pay. I have been trying and trying on line, but these must have been just released. So I wanted to let John Moses know that I'll be there with bells on and anxious to hear him play!

Tuesday night it is! That is exciting for all of you because the show is great!
Meet me down at the "pit" at intermission or after the show.
Our performances on Tuesday nights are set up for families with kids, so make sure you're there by 7:00 sharp! The 8:00 show-ups miss lots by being late.
I'll give you all a tour of the backstage, pit, and stars dressing rooms, after the show. We might even bump into someone famous!
BTW:
Any of you who decide to come to NYC to see WICKED are also invited backstage. Just make sure I'm in the show the day of the tickets.
Have fun,

DO NOT MISS THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET JOHN!

John gave my wife and I a tour of the backstage area of Oklahoma when we went to NYC/Broadway a couple of years back (my how time flies!). It's an experience you don't want to miss!

I just received an email from "Buzz" Brauner's son. Steve. He reads our BBoard and his son is a Sax player.
Buzz was a fine woodwind player at CHORUS LINE for 12+ years, and gave dozens of backstage tour to friends, family, and even interested strangers.
When I saw CHORUS LINE, Buzz took me around to meet the "big guys," what a thrill.
So, I'm just carrying on a Broadway tradition...show people around, and make Broadway and live music, a truly wonderful experience.

John-

How did you get to be in the musical pit orchestras? That is one thing I would love to do after I graduate college! How would I get my "foot in the door"?

I hope you love your job! I would love to have a great job like that! I do the pit orchestras for my school musicals and I have a blast doing it!

Hi Clarinetgirl06:
Yes, I love my job, and I continue to marvel at the wonderful world of live music, after over 35+ years at it!
As to "getting your foot in the door," you'll do lots better thinking about practicing and performing as much as possible right now. Get into every group that will have you. Start up some chamber music groups yourself. Make your playing known to as many people as possible...sell yourself, musically.
I posted many notes on the subject of Broadway Pit Musicians on this BBoard over the years. Please do a search and check them out.
Also, I can't stress enough the need to join the American Federation of Musicians (AFM), wherever you live. Find your Local office and become a member, as it is necessary to be in the Union to play on Broadway, or at most professional venues.
Practice, listen, perform, keep a good attitude, and network yourself as a musician. Most of all, don't give up your dreams...they do come true!

My daughters and I spent a magical evening at the Gershwin Theater last night, enjoying the performance of Wicked. John Moses and the orchestra were positively awesome, and we were truly blown away by the music, story, costumes, and superb professionalism of all involved. John kindly gave us a backstage tour, about which my daughters are still awestruck. This was a night we will never forget.

John, please accept our deepest thanks for your welcome, hospitality and your time.

I would like to encourage you all to make an effort to get tickets and do not miss this show. You will be so pleased that you did. It was worth driving back to the Cape and arriving home at 5:00 a.m.. We're already talking about making the pilgrimage again!

Thanks for the kind words, Sue.
I mentioned earlier in this thread:
"I'll give you all a tour of the backstage, pit, and stars dressing rooms, after the show. We might even bump into someone famous!"
Well, guess what? On our way out of the backstage of the theater, we literally ran into "the Good Witch, Glinda," who is actually the wonderful and talented actor, Jennifer Laura Thompson. She greeted Sue and her kids, and was very gracious and giving of her time.
So, a trip to the Theater can be a lifelong memory. Lets all keep music alive for future generations.

Here's one that few know.

The star of it (Kristen Chenoweth) was Joshua Bell's girlfriend - I worked with her on mp3.com as her artist rep. Ironically, I also worked with Bell's former girlfriend who he dumped for Kristen.
