I agree entirely that the D-series and K-series were manufactured at the same time (and the Boosey number lookup reflects this). However, they are different models. The D-series are (wood) Evettes (and Evette Master Models -- I have one of each), the forerunners of the E11 and E12, respectively. The K-series are Evette & Schaeffers (and Evette & Schaeffer Master Models), forerunners to the E13. Buffet did not transfer the manufacture of their Evette & Schaeffers to the Schreiber und Sohne factory, only the Evettes (and possibly the Evette Master Models, I'm not sure). Also, according to the 1941 brochure I mentioned in an earlier post, the Evettes were not made in the same factory as the R13 and E&S, even when they were being made in France.

I play an evette shaeffer k series clarinet, made in the 1970s, and I like it very much. I have another one in the process of being overhauled, and am hopeful that it will offer the same benefit, but we'll see.

Sue....I just repaired a K series E&S for an associate. It is a well made horn and plays very well. I was impressed with it overall.

According to the serial number list at The Music Group (Buffet's parent company) website, your Evette was made in 1974. As I recall Buffet shifted production of the Evette to Germany around 1978 so that would make yours a relatively late French Evette, IMHO among the best of that model. I think it is fairly comparable to Buffet's current E11. Actually I prefer its keywork to that of the E11. I overhauled one of these for my daughter to use as her school horn and it served her very well. As is usually the case, value depends on condition.

When you do a search on the Buffet site for the D-serial Paris Evettes, they are listed with the E12 and E12 Master. I believe these are much better instruments than the German-made E11's.
