Now, I realize that this isn't exactly a clarinet question, but I wasn't sure where else to ask. I recently purchased a bombard (kind of an ancient oboe) and can make a sound and everything but I'm looking for either a website or a book that can help me develop tone and technique, as well as aid with making the reeds when the time comes. If anyone has any idea it would be very helpful. Thanks a ton!
So many instruments to play........so little time to play them!

The bombard[e] is well described in Baines, with a pic of a "Breton" type. There is a translation of the "oboe and bassoon" book [only have a few copied pages] by Joppig, I believe, which might be the best ref available, beyond museums and their publications. Don

Bombard has a number of analog instruments in different cultures: zurna (eastern europe), zhalyeka (sp? russian), and a similar arabic instrument (don't know the name). They are all short double-reed instruments which are Very Loud.
David Cantieni, the wind instrument specialist in Contra Dance band Wild Asparagus, played bombard during the Ann Arbor Dawn Dance 2/27/05-2/28-05. He is very accomplished on irish flute, alto sax, penny whistle, and some other things. I did not hear that event, but you might be able to get contact information one of several websites:

Highly unlikely. Even baroque oboes require different reeds from modern oboes. A bombard(e) is more like a shawm. Commercially made reeds are available for them, though.
