anyone do this old classic before? i am playing the reed 3 book which requires mainly just clarinet and tenor sax. there are a lot of flute parts but its conveniently all doubled on clarinet. thank goodness....some of the flute parts are seriously tuff stuff. at one point theres also a little pic part that is doubled on clarinet (high G's and stuff of course). when i was asked to play i was told i would be doing the tenor and clarinet book. the flute stuff was a little surprise. is playing the flute parts on clarinet professionally acceptable? im just a student but i would love to continue playing in musicals for the rest of my life so im just curious about what most pros do in this situation. its actually written in the book as "to flute or clarinet" which leads me to believe its really just up to the director. i can play the flute reasonably well, but some of the stuff is just soooo high and sooo fast that im not sure i can do it consistantly enough to perform it. and for those of you who have played it...what do you think about it? it seems like a fun mix of big band style and well...i dunno..."hickish"...music. it should be a good time.

Geesh, it was probably over 25 years ago, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think the reed book I played called for clarinet(?), sax, piccolo/flute, and bass clarinet. I remember the worst switch was having to go to piccolo after playing the bass part. Not many people today even know of the comic strip characters.

Here's one old geezer that does. Daisy Mae especially. Wasn't Snuffy Smith there too?
