Does anyone out there play or has tried these reeds? What do you think? Any feedback would be great. I'm looking for a new model for my reedmaking and I'm looking to try something other than a V12. I've tried Morre Reeds already and just couldn't make it work for me. Also, are the strengths similar to V12? Everytime I look at reed comparison charts, depending on the site, they're always different.

Yes, they are pretty similar. Eventually, Rico may come out with a 3 3/4 strength as Ricardo and I have been strongly pushing for it.
They are really great reeds. Also you should try the Rue LePic Vandorens and the Gonzalez - they are great too.
My favorite personally is the Evolution. Try a box of 3 1/2's and go from there.

I use Evolution. I find them stronger than V12: Evolution 3 equivalent to V12 3.5. See also Aussie Nick's recent thread on this point.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.
To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

I've just gotten hooked on the Evolutions as well. I grabbed one of the samplers Buffet puts in with their new clarinets and tried out a 3.5 on my Caravan clarinet m/p.
Response and sound is FAR better than anything I've used so far on that piece.

I tried a 3 and a 3 1/2 from the Buffet sampler. I didn't like either of them at all. Maybe I should've given them another chance, but I like my Rue Lepic 3.5+ and Vandoren 4's better than either of the Evolutions. I have on order some Gonzalez 3.75, so maybe I'll like those... you also have to take into considersation your mouthpiece and your ligature too. Maybe some expirementation will help you! The Evolutions are probably very good reeds, but they just didn't work for MY set up. Go ahead and try them though and hopefully you'll love them! Best of luck!
Just thinking: Maybe I would've liked an Evolution 3.25... hmm... if they made that strength, I would try them...

i agree that Evolution 3.5 are a bit stronger than V12, and this is quite useful for me as V12 3.5 are just a bit too soft for me.... however i do find that while i get a good number of "player reeds" out of Evolutions, i don't get many "concert reeds" (even with adjustment)
btw i have tried using Vandoren Rue dps as templates for reed making, and didn't have much luck, but am waiting for time to do a batch using an Evolution as the model (i use a Reedual)

donald:
i tried using a Rue56 as a model about a year ago and never did like the way they came off the machine. i've ordered some 3.5 and 4s Evolutions from Muncy so hopefully those will do the trick. i'm also using a reedual as well.

one major consideration with reed making is that if you are going to do it "en mass" you need to have cane/blanks that match your template. The manufacturers go to quite a lot of bother to try to get this right.
It's not as simple as "good cane vrs bad cane" but a certain reed prototype will match a certain "type" of cane. [ok, while there is of course cane variation between individual tubes/blanks there is a certain level of consistency from a certain source + size/thickness of blank etc]
this is a topic that could go on for another 1000 words.....
but as a reed maker at my own modest scale, i want to find a cane source and a template that match. Trying to make V12 copies using Davie Cane blanks, for instance, isn't ideal.
actually, i'm working from home this morning. when i get a minute i might burn THREE reed blanks from an Evolution, and see what happens.
more later

I played Rico GC Evolution and Thick Blank for years when I was playing a Pomarico mouthpiece. I found they worked the best with it. About six months ago I found a better mouthpiece, and found that Vandoren reeds work better with it. My conclusion is that they are great reeds, and depends on your mouthpiece a lot too.
By the way, I remember Rico GC reeds had quarter strength before, then they suddenly stopped making them. I remember 2.75 was the best strength for me.
