I really enjoy this website and was wanting information on similar websites that are saxophone specific. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Sax on the Web (SOTW) with almost 10,000 users is arguably the largest sax forum on the Web. It has moved a bit in the last two years as we search for a provider that can handle our massive databases. I think the latest incarnation (as of last week) will work for a while. You can find us at http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/.

alt.music.sax on the usenet (Google Groups will get you there) is also heavily used. It's not moderated, however, so there tend to be a lot of nasty exchanges and spam.

I'd advise against posting anything on usenet, at least without going through a service that blocks your identity. At worst, it's a potential hook for identity theft. At best, it opens you up to torrents of spam.

www.saxquest.com/forums is another place that's much smaller and easier to navigate than the catagory-rich SOTW forums. The problem with it is that unlike the very well moderated SOTW, it has no moderation what so ever. However, it has gotten a bit more sane after a prominent adolescent troll left a few months ago. However, again, I like this forum because it concentrates a usually high level of discussion into one easy to look at listing of topics. Such discussions can be found on SOTW if you search each catagory and do a lot of sifting, the saxquest forum on the other hand has a lot of "identify my sax for me" threads and rarely goes into deep topics like they do here.

To be clear, the SOTW charter, as laid out by Harri (the owner), is to provide a moderated forum to discuss all thangs sax but in an environment that is safe for kids. Music teachers have requested this and Harri has obliged.

Some of our best posters are members of the Clarinet BB forums too. So if you appreciate Roger's, Gordon's, or Merlin's responses here, you'll find some of the same, high-quality responses for questions about saxes on the SOTW forums.

I personally visit the Saxophone Corner sponsored by Selmer quite frequently. It's a smaller board, but very friendly. You can get to it through a link on the left side of Selmer's homepage (www.selmer.com).

The trouble I once found with the Selmer forum, is that any post that suggested any problem with a Selmer instrument, was deleted. That turned it into a Selmer self-adulation forum. Do they still do that?

You know, I don't really know if they still do that. I haven't really been on their forum much recently.

A lot of people like smaller boards. Smaller is less intimidating and more personal. I can understand that. But, given time, a larger forum can become your community--one that you can usually get help or answer from.

I know a lot of smaller sax forums, but none of them really compare to the support I got from SOTW, even before I became a moderator there. So I frequent them, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend them.
