 Cadenza for early classical period?
Author: Aussiegirl

I'm currently working on a Carl Stamitz concerto in Eb, as my teacher is trying to get all of us to get a feel for the music written shortly after the instrument became popular etc. There is a cadenza at the end of the first movement which is written simply as a thumb c with a pause, an f below that with a pause, and then i think a G pause. My teacher said to write my own cadenza on this, but my problem is that i have no idea what kind of things were normally in cadenzas at this time! The only ones ive ever done are the 2nd mov of Mozart and the 1st mov of Weber Fmin, and im sure something like that wouldnt fit. Any help please?

Nobody else has offered any help....

Might be worth looking at Quantz "On Playing the Flute". It was written in 1752, so is perhaps slightly early for Stamitz. I read it about 30 years ago so can't remember what exactly it covered, but I'd be surprised if there wasn't some relevant material in there.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
