 gurgling sound....bad pad?
Author: john gibson

......Leblanc LL. all is good except open G. It has a gurgling sound is only way I can describe it. Maybe a fluttering. I figure it must be a bad pad somewhere....but where? Any ideas? Thanks.

probably water in one of the tone holes. use cigarette paper to swab it out, give your horn a good all over swab down, or locate the offending water and blow it out. if it is not water, then I don't know what else may be causing this.

Any of the upper joint closed pads could be bad, but I would first check for a torn or split membrane on the pad under the key for the throat A. ...GBK

The open "G" is affected the most by the pad under the throat "A" key and the thumb tube.

Check quality of the pad and height adjustment. Make sure nothing is stuck in the related tone hole. Clean the thumb tube.

Rite, Vytas and GBK, also look at the G#, is the adjustment screw set too tight??, If it and the A and the high trills are OK, water in the F#, even with its being on the high side of the water run, might be IT. Luck, Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

I would have a look at the largest pads, too.

Your suspicion could be accurate - something acting as a flapping valve...
