I happened to know end sheet(paper) is useful to get rid of moisture or sticking saliva off the pad skins. They are sold at cosmetics shops.Women use these papers to wipe out oil on their faces(I heard).Guys may be looked at by them with somewhat queer expressions on the faces......There are 150 sheets at the cost of some 2$s,cheap!

People in here in the US also find the old fashioned cigarette papers (used for rolling your own cigarettes from loose tobacco) also work well. However since it is a tobacco related item, some places will not sell the papers to you unless you are old enough to smoke (can't make cigarettes without the tobacco but laws can be rather strange).

Another problem is that they are also used in making illegal marijuana cigarettes so some areas do not sell them at all.

However, there are still people in the US who either regularly or occasionally like to roll their own cigarettes so these products are still available.

The papers used for permanent rollers are good too! You get a zillion in a box... they are pretty cheap too! :)

Hmm.
1)Paul:Permanent roller paper seems very much cheaper!
2)Dee:Yes,I found in Fredrick Thurston's book or Keith Stein book that tobacco papers are recommended. But I have never found here in Japan only tobacco papers being sold without tobacco! Needed alternatives.

Yamaha makes pads of thin papers for this very purpose. They are sold in some music stores so there is no problem with a teenager buying those. Torn into strips, they also make good feelers for seating pads.

It seems I heard some time ago that tobacco paper is also know as "rice" paper. This is hearsay - I don't know it to be fact.

Anyway - silk is also very good for absorbing moisture. I use a silk swab for cleaning and when water accumlates in one of the troublesome tone holes, I simply use a corner of the swab to remove it. Of course, some holes (e.g. the side F# "trill" hole) are hard to get silk into whereas paper is a bit stiffer and can be coerced under the pad. Also, it sometimes helps to use paper under the pad *while* pulling the swab through. So, might I suggest keeping a separate swatch of silk in your possesion?

Another suggestion:
The type of paper that new shirts sometimes come wrapped in (or that is used to wrap things inside gift boxes) is also useful for wicking up moisture. This paper is often available at card shops.

Camera lens cleaning tissues work well, too, if you can get the kind with no cleaning fluid in them. They're lint-free.

Another problem with cigarette papers is that even if a student can buy them, many schools ban them as drug paraphernalia. Getting caught with papers in a clarinet case could lead to a suspension at those schools. "Oh, you clean your PADS with the papers, uh-huh, RI-I-I-I-IGHT."
