 ClarinetFest 2005 Travel Questions

I'm interested in attending ClarinetFest this year in Japan with my clarinet playing daughter (we're from the Los Angeles area). I'm assuming the way to do this is:

1. Obtain passports (done)
2. Join the ICA via their web site: http://www.clarinet.org/
3. Register for the event at the ClarinetFest web site at: http://www.cl-fest2005.jp/e/info.html
4. Make Hotel Reservations also from the ClarinetFest web site
5. Book Airline Reservations

Has anyone already gone through the registration process? If so, do you have additional suggestions, recommendations or comments (gotchas) before I start making the travel arrangements?

We're really looking forward to this event. We went to ClarinetFest in 2001 and had a wonderful time.

Yes, I've registered. Our family also frequently travels to/from Japan - my wife is Japanese and she and my children travel a couple of times a year back & forth to visit my in-laws. Along with visiting my oldest son who plays clarinet, teaches woodwind, and conducts in the Tokyo area :)

The suggestions in the latest issue of The Clarinet were spot on for airline reservations. If you live in a city with many Japanese citizens (such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, Detroit) check your local papers an d phone books for travel agents specializing in travel to Japan. The price of a ticket via these agents is often less than half the published fares.

If you have a bit of time (and money) left over, a side trip to Hakone (the hot springs area near the foot of Mt. F uji) or to Nikko is highly recommended.

Mark,

Thanks for the info. Looks like we're going to Japan. We're all signed up and looking forward to the trip.

The ClarinetFest web site was easy to use and well organized.
