Leblanc III

My daughter just bought a really nice Leblanc III from a local 2nd hand store...

Can anyone tell me anything about the Leblanc III?
In the emblem it has Paris, and on the top of the emblem there is a G...

Serial #: 15398

She says it plays much better than her Buffet...

I know nothing about clarinets just trying to dig up some info for her...

Hi NLN - I've never seen that Leb marking, but the 15xxx ser # dates it back quite a few years, into the 1940-50's I believe,. Is there any other info on it such as Symphon[y[or "ie"] if so , its one of their best in that time period when G and L Leblanc were working hard to establish a US "clarinet presence". Others, please help, Don

Thanks for the quick response...

Above the logo emblem there is an engraving...
It looks to be like a ribbon or something in the shape of a bell...
The ribbon appears to have a twist at the bottom of the bell and a tie at the top of the bell... The bottom left and right of the bell have kind of a loop...

I've noticed on other Leblancs (on the web) there is usually wording above the logo to indentify the model...

My camera is not very good...
I tried my best to capture about 9 images of the emblem...

Many people mistake the III in the Leblanc symbol (below the word Paris), for a model identifier. At least on older instruments, the actual model is usually stamped somewhere above the rather ornate Leblanc symbol. Is there, by any chance, a design above the Leblanc logo that, on close inspection, turns out to be a large script L with a mirror image? That would make the instrument an LL, a long-lived member of the product line. Or there may be a word such as Symphonie, Dynamic, or an L7, L27, L200, etc.? If you can find something like that, someone may be able to tell you more.

This is Leblanc LL, model 1176, made in mid 1960s

"III" appears on ALL pro level Leblanc clarinets.

I would have never thought this was an LL

Looks like a bell or a couple nice ribbons...
But I guess it could be a mirrored cursive L

So this would be considered to be the top of the line in Leblanc?

I took it to the local Mr. E's Music store...
To polish it up, re-cork, pads and clean they charge 240.00
They thought it might be worth many 1000s of dollars...
And actually said over 4-8k that's kind of hard to believe though...

So I'm kind of scared to just let anyone touch it, my daughter said it plays incredible...

There are very, very few old clarinets that would be worth that kind of money. An LL isn't one of them. In fact, if they want to give you 4K for it, take the money

Maybe if she hangs on to it for 40 years more it'll be 4k....

I hate to say this but she picked it up for 95.00 at a second hand clothing store... They were asking 200.00 but she got them down to 95.00...

Guess I can stop payments on the used 1800.00 Buffet that doesn't play as well... <grin>

LLs can go for $400 to $800 on ebay.

It's a really decent professional model, far better in my view than the L7. An LL I just sold went for GBP £475 fully overhauled. If I have a criticism, it's that the tone is a tad one-dimensional, but that's compared to R13s and top of the range Selmers.

I agree, thousands will never be offered for it--but if it's a good instrument it's worth its weight in gold! Keep the Buffet for a back up.
