I may have a chance to play in the pit orchestra for Pajama Game. Does anyone know how challenging the music is? I could play sax, clarinet and some easy flute parts.

When I was a freshman our school did that musical and I played clarinet and sax (I think it was the reed 1 book but I'm not sure). It was my first (and still only) experience in a pit orchestra environment...I'm now a junior. The sax parts were very difficult for me because I was just learning sax and probably wouldn't be as tough now. The key signatures for the clarinet weren't pretty but from what I hear it's like that with a lot of pit music. There are some pretty cool exposed parts that aren't too tough but there were also parts that were way over my head...or so I thought at that time. Back then I got scared when I saw lots of black ink and runs and things of that sort....now I learned to take things slow at first and work my way up to the desired tempo. I also had a lot of other music happenings going on at the time and probably didn't practice the Pajama Game music as much as I should have so that may have been part of the problem. Sorry I can't provide more specific details, I don't remember too much about the actual difficulty of the music. The musical is very entertaining though and I had a great time doing it.

I played it in high school about 44 years ago and did not find it particularly challenging.
