My clarinet trio is playing Grand Trio (1st movement) by Bouffil. I am the person announcing our trio and none of us know how to say his name.
I have been saying Boo-fill
Or is it Boo-feel?
Or something completely different?
PLEASE HELP! I don't want to make a fool of myself for the judge!

Can't you just play something by Jones?

What's that about? I don't get what you are saying! Our contest is TOMORROW so that's why I have to know how to say it!
Is everyone 100% sure that it's Boo-fil?

Was just kidding. If you can't pronounce what you're playing. play something you can pronounce.
Well, I thought it was funny...
/tried to find an actual answer to question but failed

Maybe pronouncing it the way you believe it should be pronounced and adding that you hope Bouffil does not take offense to your pronounciation and if Bouffil ever has to pronounce your name, you will not be offended if he calls you Blarinetgirl06?

How about stating to the audience that you hope you pronounce it correctly and then giving it your best shot. Adds a little humor and therefore "personality" to the description, will warm them up to you, and it's pretty much like a disclaimer. So now that person can't sue you for making slander of their last name.

Oh! I didn't get that you were making a joke! I thought you meant that Bouffil was a bad composer and that we should've played the clarinet trio by Jones. Wow! I feel like a blonde, eventhough I'm a brunette! So Boo-fill is is? ANY FRENCH SPEAKERS that can confirm?

Arnoldstang:
I think you're right about the pronunciation of Bouffil (boo-fee'), but you picked a particularly bad example in "fils", that word is pronounced "feez" with a "z" sound at the end. The word "fille" is pronounced "fee".

Pronounce the composer's name as best you can; it's clear you're putting forth the required effort on research and being proper and correct. Don't feel embarrassed; I worked with a guy with an MM in Theory from Michigan State who pronounced "Shostakovich" as,
NOT: Shah-stuh-koh-vich
but
Shah-stah-kuh-vich

Well, I had contest and my clarinet trio got a I. We played so AWESOME! It was about a I at State so we're really happy! I pronounced it Boo-feel, because I didn't get to check this board Saturday morning! At least I know how to say it for State! Thanks for the help!
