Does anyone know of any band arrangements that have really nice Eb soprano clarinet solos? are there any Eb clarinet solos in any orchestral pieces? do you know of any Eb clarinet duets?

Keil,
You might want to read through some of R. Strauss' works (Till Eulenspiegel jumps up right away, along with the Eb part to Daphnes and Chloe). There's a book of Eb excerpts that's been mentioned here very recently, too.
If you search here and in the Klarinet archives you'll find more - that should be the <b>first</b> place you check.

clarinet choir music would have Eb solos in it. i have heard a woodwind quintet with an Eb part, but there was also Bb. you could play sax music. there is a lot of orchestral Eb music to study.

Fiesta del Pacifico by Roger Nixon is a band work that has a cool Efer solo. Aaron Copeland's El Solon Mexico has great Efer work in the band arrangement and the original orchestra version. Copeland's third Symphony (the one Fanfare for the Common Man was taken from) has a lot of tough Efer work. If I remember correctly, Bernstein also uses the little monster in his West Side Story Suite. By the way, I heard that Stanley Drucker started out as E-flat clarinetist in the New York Phil.

Roger Nixon seems to like the efer. As a matter of fact, I was just reading through a piece of his entitled, "Two Duos for Piccolo and Eb Clarinet (or Piccolo and Flute)" (1982)Of course, if it actually were performed with Flute instead of our dear soprano horn, the entire piece would loose all it's *charm,* I'm sure.
At first glance, it looks pretty exciting. The second movement has this glissy motif that keeps exploding into these ascending staccato thirds that are not afraid to sing (?) high and far. Nixon instructs the beginning of the first movement to be "strident" and "feroce" and the way it's written you couldn't be otherwise.
The piccolo player in my ensemble introduced it to me. At first, I thought a duet would be great to use as a way to practice tuning together...but the way this piece looks, I'd say, fasten your seat belts cuz this ain't no Bolero.
