 Chances of a 'C' Forte'
Author: Bob A

Doctor et al, what are the chances of getting a Forte' in 'C'? Many "noodlers" like myself would be very glad and Church musicians gleeful as well. Better hurry it up, I'm 80 this Oct and "HOLDING"

Bob -
Chances are slim for the forseeable future. Unfortunately it is a matter of dollars and cents (actually over 250 K) to bring a new model to market and about 2-3 years of prototyping, adjusting, testing, evaluating, tweaking, and retooling at the factory. The next Forte' will probably be the elusive "perfect 'A' clarinet".

I guess I can give up holding MY breath--that's good as I don't have much of it left.

Personally I really dislike the C Clarinet - hate the sound of it.

Yeah, I know David. You're back to trying to get me to learn to transpose again. With my head at my age it just ain't gonna happen.

Bob, I have a 79 yr old student who I am teaching to read music and he's doing very well.

I can see why you would want a C clarinet though. Woodwind Brasswind has one that is cheap - heck, you could even get a LYONS C Clarinet (they advertize on sneezy) which are only about $300!

I agree about the brightness of the C. The best tone I ever got on a C was on a Patricola Grenadilla wood one with a Chadash barrel and a Grenadilla wood Greg Smith Kaspar mouthpiece. The barrel and mouthpiece helped to darken the tone a bit.

There's also a great problem with intonation on many of the Cs. The Buffet E-11 C is a nice one for the money.

Bright C cl, YES, a function of boresize and pitch, sim. to the Eb sop !! I had a {small Fr} Bb mp shortened, rather than the barrel, to get my old Conn plastic up to 440+, it seemed to mellow the tone a bit with mp patch and plastic lig, try combo's. Bob A, dont ask me for sympathy, I'm 85+ and do OK as long as I pay close attention!

Thanx, Mark, Don
