clarinet..."blind" and "out of the box"

If I were to buy a new yamaha 82Z sax I'd feel semi-comfortable buying one without playing it first. If I wanted a mark vi i'd try many until i found the best one.

Queestion: Tone aside, how do selmer, yamaha, buffet, and leblanc rank in terms of consistency and quality of their professional instruments.

This is NOT a which clarinet is better because tone is not a factor. This is helpful to me because If, for example, you say Yamaha is very consistent I would know if i liked it after only playing a few. If R13 is less consistent I know I would have to try a lot more before knowing what a "good" one sounds like.

Yamaha clarinets that I have played have been very consistent and the set up has been very good. I have played a number of them right out of the box that were good enough to walk out on stage and play as is.

Hmmmmmmmm i know when i bought my R13 i tried out a heap that had already been tried by the shop people and found there was a pretty big difference betweens ome of them. But i think id just feel more comfortable knowing that the one i bought was good before i bought it
