I'm looking for a new 2-hook bass clarinet strap. The one I currently have is the cheap selmer one that came w/ my bass (a plastic student model). It has the leather band and isn't very comfortable and the plastic clip/sliding mechanism doesn't stay in place well. I'm looking for other's recommendations/opinions about other 2-hook straps that are comfortable, durable, & sturdy.

I like the thin (original) Ray Hyman sax straps, but they're single-hook types. I'd suggest you try to wean yourself off the double-hook configuration and see if you can 'go single' --- you might find it more comfortable, and it's certainly easier to switch horns when doubling.

If you decide to stay with a double-hook strap, I believe BG (France) makes a pretty decent one.

I use two separate straps. A wide Ray Hyman (supersling) for the lower loop and a narrow alto sax type strap (also a Ray Hyman) for the upper loop. This way I don't have to worry about a strap or loop breaking while I'm standing. If one breaks the other should hold. It's unlikely that two straps would break at the exact same time. Playing while sitting I use a floor peg but still keep both straps on the horn. The downside of this system is, as Dave suggests, the extra time involved in switching to a doubling horn.
