 Bass clarinet concerto
Author: clarnibass

Hi

A few years ago I played tihs bass clarinet concerto by a composer called Leroy Ostransky. I lost it but want to play it in a competition in my university. I won't be able to come to the library in the uni before I need it. Since I'll use it only for this it is legal to copy it. If anyone can somehow email it to me that would be great.

Thank you very much,

Nitai

If it is the Concertino in D minor by Ostransky, it is contained in the Voxman Concert and Contest Collection for Bass Clarinet (Rubank).

Available everywhere ...GBK

Thank you GBK. I looked at the only page from the clarinet part (I lost the piano part completely) I have left from that piece and you are correct, it's the Concertino in D minor.

If by available everywhere you meant in every sheet music store in the USA or Europe, then I'm out of luck!
The sheet music stores here don't have it, and ordering it would take too long. Ordering from the US or Europe would take too long too.
That is why I asked if anyone can email it to me.There are no legal problems since copying it for this purpose is legal.

Thank you very much again.

GBK do you know about a store that has that collection, ships internationally, and has secured (SSL) online orders?

If you know about somewhere I can buy only the Concertino alone it is even better.

Thank you very much.

A bass clarinet concertino? I am intrigued. What level of difficulty is it? Is there an orchestra arrangement? I am going to audition to be a soloist at a local youth symphony, and I wanted to do a bass solo piece instead of a soprano one, so any other good ideas are welcome.

thanks,
topher

This is off subject, but that same composer also wrote a short piece for bass clarinet and piano entitled March Comique. It's an excellent piece for students (maybe 8-10 grade level), and is stylistically quite different from many of the baroque/classical transcriptions that bass clarinet often have to play. Just something to add! Thanks

Hi Topher, it's been a long time since I've played it, but from what I remember technically it's relatively easy. If I'm not mistaken it is pretty short too. It is also one of the pieces I really enjoyed playing. It is very fun to play and just great music. If I went to a bass clarinet concert and this was one of the pieces they played, I'd be happy!
as far as I know there is no orchestra arrangement, but soon there might be an arrangement for bass clarinet and tenor saxophone (not that it would help you). Me and a friend are playing in a duo competition in university and I thought that could be an interesting piece to arrange.
