 Peregi Verbunk- Weiner Leo
Author: Vicky

Hey everyone!

I'm learning Peregi Verbunk- Weiner Leo clarinet solo. I am doing this for my assessment (analizing the piece and writing an essay about it, the composer, and the period), but I am having trouble finding anything about it. If you know of any good recordings of it, I would love to know about that. Do any of you have any information about this solo?

Thanks a million.
Vicky

I must qualify GBK's correction, perish the thought.

Weiner was Hungarian. Hungarians write their surnames before their given names, at least when writing in Hungarian. When writing in English, they usually adopt the order we are used to.

This can cause immense confusion. I used to have a client called Sandor Laszlo, and I could never but never remember which name was which. Alexander Laurence or Laurence Alexander? In Weiner's case it is at least clear that Weiner is the surname.

A portrait of the great man (Weiner, not my client) at http://mek.oszk.hu/01900/01905/html/index949.html It is captioned "Berény Róbert: Weiner Leo" - Róbert is the artist's given name, not his surname.

-----------

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.

David...

Yes, thanks for the qualification.

However, just like Béla Bartók, Zoltan Kodály, Jenö Ormándy, Zoltán Kocsis, Miklós Rózsa, Géza Anda, or many others, in this case it will probably be more fruitful to find information with their given name before the surname...GBK (who is a big fan of Gábor Zsa Zsa) [wink]

Hi, I just played this solo for my DePaul University audition, and a recording that I found useful and AWESOME was Caroline Hartig's on her CD entitled "Clarinet Brilliante". I hope this helps.

Derek,

I was thinking about ordering that one. Thanks for the advice!

My friend goes to DePaul University. She's a clarinet player over there. You should keep us all posted on how your college auditions go!

Good luck!

Vicky
