My gig today went really well! Thanks to all of you who wrote and offered to kill the trombone player for me. But what happened was that the rest of the band took over and he more or less sat there and looked bewildered. So it was really fun. I haven't gotten my paycheck yet but he assured all of us it would be in the mail tomorrow. The rest of the band took notice when I asked if we could play "I'm A DingDong Daddy from Dumas and You Ought To See Me Strut My stuff." Nobody, but nobody except from the Midwest knows this tune.
Thanks for your comments and I'll be sure and let you know how much the check is for!

Carol, you humour is Sooooooo subtle. And I know that tune....and I've been to Dumas,Arkansas which is the place the Ding Dong Daddy came from. They have great catfish and hush puppies down there but when I was there via DC3 they had no airport so we had to land alongside the highway!!! No, not kidding.

apparently even Louis Armstrong didn't know it too well when he recording "Ding Dong Daddy..." in 1929. He famously sang "... and I done forgot the words" before heading off into some heavy scatting.
Then again, I would guess that Armstrong didn't think the lyrics were really worth singing. His trumpet solo, on the other hand: pure genius.
