Anyone know what clarinet Pete Fountain had been playing in the early
90's as compared to now?

Pete has been "identified" with Leblanc cls for many years, generally the large bore [15.0 mm] 18/7 [keys/rings, fork Eb/Bb ring and artic C#/G# tenon-hole/key] variety which I have seen pictured on record albums. I dont have a copy of his book[s?], which should be the best info. I would be quite surprised if he didn't have quite a collection of cls, perhaps saxes, like many of us. My "poor-man's" PF is a Dyn 2, prob earlier than the Dyn H the PF model, now the "Big Easy" [as in N. O.] in Leb's "stable". Help, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

You don't suppose he played Vitos do you!! I say this only partly in jest since I do enjoy playing my plastic "Pete Fountain" which is in reality "just" a Vito......

In the 50s he played a Dynamic H w/forked Bb/Eb and articulated G#/C# 15 mm bore. In the 60s thru the 90s he played on (betsy) the Pete Fountain model (modifid dynamic H) that Vito gave him (many) that had the forked Bb, articulated G# w/gold plated keys and 15 mm bore. Since 2000 he has tryed to use the Big Easy but is not happy with it. The horn (betsy) he used to make most all recordings with was completely overhauled/rebuilt (the rings were woren down to where they were very thin and had sharp edges) in France and has been retired.
