Hello,
I have noticed that pad sets for Buffet and Selmer clarinets are sold brand specific. Could someone please tell me if there are differencies in the pad sizes used on the two brands.
Ultimately, if someone could specify the sizes used on the Buffet and Selmer respectively, I would be most grateful.
My question applies to A/Bb clarinets with the regular 17/6 boehm key mechanism.

simply... yes, they are different
Each clarinet is often different just due to changing parts as a model progresses. Pad sets are just a general idea and may not give you everything you need to fill up all the holes on your clarinet. You should either invest in an asortment or, measure w/ dial calipers.
I'm sure someone else will have thoughts to add.
Can I ask specifically what you're look for?

Yes,
I want to repad a couple of Buffets, which I believe have used the same pad size for the last 50 years or so, and a Selmer from the '50s or '60s.
The main issue is the Selmer, since I already have the sizes for a Buffet pad set.

I don't think the average technician can help much. Technicians rarely deal with sets as such. They take the empty key cup, reach for the bulk supply that is likely to fit, and go smaller or larger from there, probably without even being too conscious of what size they finished up with.
The size that best fits a given cup actually also depends on the model/brand of pad and its exact characteristics, and also the thickness of the edge of the cup metal, and the curve or sharpness of the inner edge of the cup metal.
A soft pad with thickish felt, sitting well into the key cup, is often interchangeable (regards 'fit') with a thin-&-firm-felt pad, one 'size' larger, with the felt overlapping the key cup edge more.
