My orchestra is playing these 2 pieces on tour. Plus a bunch of other stuff like Don Quixote, Ravel's piano concerto, stars and stripes (of course), and some other stuff. I'm not crazy about Stravinsky and I can't listen to the rite of spring for more than 2 mins without turning it off. It's kinda fun playing it but I'm having trouble looking at it as real music. I like rhapsodie espagnole tho, especially the 2 clarinet cadenza a few mins in.

The Hartford Symphony Orchestra (Connecticut) is performing Le Sacre next month. As familiar as I am with the work, I have never heard it live, and I too can't wait.
The Bushnell Memorial in Hartford is not as well known as the Sidney Opera House, but it has good acoustics and a lovely art deco interior. Last week I was at Carnegie Hall and comparing both halls, I felt the Bushnell was more attractive, although the acoustics at Carnegie Hall are superb.

Sydney acoustics vary tremendously depending on where you sit. I'm convinced that there are people who have subscribed for decades and never heard the full sound of a Symphony Orchestra.

1066 ... you're spot on about the Concert Hall acoustics ... they are not good at all. Sydney Town Hall is much better ... classic shoe-box shape, think Golden-hall (Vienna) and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam) all beautiful acousitcs ... all shoe box in shape.

Melbourne Youth Orchestra will be playing this piece at their (our) final concert, December 10, Iwaki Auditorium. It's going to be great - because for once I haven't had the Eb part forced upon me!

I didn't realise that. But wouldn't the people who live in and around Sydney and who are interested in classical music already know about the concert? The rest of us are hardly going to fly down under to hear it!
