Last night at The Kimmel Center in Philadelphia I had the pleasure of seeing 2 legends. Marian Mcpartland trio and The Dave Brubeck Quartet featuring Bobby Militello on Alto Sax and Flute. Marian played tunes featuring many styles, including Dixie, Pop, Blues, a composition that she wrote and a song written by Chic Corea and even one written by Ornette Coleman. Dave proved once again that he has not lost a thing and still is highly inventive using his polytonal style, playing with the rythum and unique chord voicings. However the highlight of the evening was the amazing Alto Sax playing of Bobby Militello. He has an incredible imaginative style of improvisation, coupled with technique that is as close to perfection as possible. A truely inspiring experience.

JMSA,
Two of my favorite musicians! That must have been a truly wonderful evening.
Check out Bobby Militello playing flute on Koto Song. You'll find that cut on the Late Night Brubeck; Live from the Blue Note CD.

Even more than her piano playing I have enjoyed various interviews with Marian......obviously a wonderful and talented woman. Brubeck is a true legend.
